Your bedroom in college is tiny. Whether you are in a dorm or living off campus, the odds are that your bedroom is pretty small and storage space is scarce. It is one of the pitfalls of being young and in college, as you often cannot afford housing where your room is of an appropriate size and the space is yours and yours alone rather than shared.

You have a lot of things that you need to keep in your room though—you cannot leave your belongings pell-mell around the house or leave them in your hometown. You need them with you, whenever an occasion where you might need them arises. You need to maximize your small amount of space so you can keep as many of your important items with you as possible.

Keeping them organized is also important. You are a busy college student. You need to know where your things are so that you do not have to waste time looking for them. But it can also be hard to stay organized because you do not have a lot of time to put things away, especially when you are in a rush. But if you find ways to store and organize your belongings effectively, you can cut down on a lot of time. And, that way, you have fewer things to worry about. So, if maximizing storage space is a concern for you, you are not alone. Read on to learn how to get more storage space in your bedroom!

Bed Risers

Bed risers can be an incredibly effective way to create more storage space in your bedroom. What is a bed riser, you may be asking? According to Furniture.com, “[Bed risers are] supports that elevate a bed, risers can lift beds to create additional space underneath or to reach desired positions. Bed risers may be adjustable or stackable in order to reach selectable heights, which typically range from three to eight inches. Memory foam mattresses do not require box-springs, so individuals may wish to use risers to elevate beds to common bed heights.”

As described, you can lift your bed to many different heights with these risers. Why would you want to that? To store more stuff under your bed! The space is already wasted. I mean, your bed has to go somewhere, right? If you made your bed just a little bit taller, imagine all the stuff you could fit under there! You could place bigger, bulkier items that are hard to store or are sort of ungainly to look at underneath your bed instead of leaving them out in the open. You could put books and other more stackable kinds of items under there as well. That way you can save space by eliminating the needs for other furniture, like a bookcase. You could even place storage bins or drawers there to keep things really organized. You could put extra or out of season clothing there that will not fit in your closet or wardrobe. You could put towels and other linens in there, especially if you do not have a linen closet.

It is a great, out-of-the-way space to store items that is definitely underutilized.

Drawer Cubes

Another great way to get more storage space in your bedroom is to use drawer cubes! Most people are not able to effectively organize their clothes and the other contents of their drawers in a way that maximizes the space to full advantage. Using drawer cubes is a great way to help you do that so you can fit as much of your clothing into your drawers as possible and do not need to use any other containers or storage spaces for them. It helps to keep your clothes organized too, for easy picking that will help you stay sane and less stressed out.

Closet Door Storage

Your closet doors are definitely underutilized as well. There are many different options to store items from here as well. You can always do the classic hanging shoe organizer off of the back of the closet. They have a variety of different shoe organizers too so you can choose the style that best fits your shoe needs.

You can also get lines and hang other items from the backs of them as well. You could hang hats, bags, purses, scarves, and more. It is also a great way to store and display your jewelry so you can more easily choose the pieces you want to wear each day and protect them by keeping them out of sight.

Do not be afraid to be creative. Use these tips to your advantage (or create your own) to help you maximize your storage space and live your best life while in school!
